Some of Lanzarote’s tourist and leisure attractions broke their daily visitor records on Wednesday 20 April 2011 with just over 13,000 people passing through their doors
Although it was not a public holiday, the mid-week day saw much larger crowds than usual with long queues experienced at some Lanzarote attractions.
Thoses Lanzarote highlights that reported record numbers were Jameos del Agua and the Montana del Fuego in Mount Timanfaya. Cueva de los Verdes and Cactus Garden were also very busy that day.
The massive increase in numbers was due to 3 large cruise ships were in docked in Arrecife at the time. Cruise lines often operate organised excursions to the more popular Lanzarote attractions and 3 cruise ships could carry as many as 9000 people thus explaining the crowds.
If you’re holidaying on the island it worth checking which days cruise ships are in port and avoiding the main attractions on those days.
Anybody who visits Lanzarote should certainly make the effort to visit Timanfaya National Park. It’s Lunar Landscape is like nowhere you will see anywhere else on Earth!Share
