Lanzarote Baggage Handlers Strike – Latest News

The unions representing Baggage Handlers at Lanzarote Aiports have given notice of a series on strikes scheduled to take place in the second half of October 2015.

The dates announced of 18th, 20th, 22nd, 25th, 27th and 29th October 2015 coincide with the busiest flight days at Lanzarote airport being Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Disruption and delays are expected to be considerable.

The employees involved all work for Swissport who handle flights for the majority of airlines at Lanzarote airport.

The good news for UK passengers is that Ryanair, Thomson Holidays and Thomas Cook Holidays do not use Swissport.

However, the disruption on the strike days is still expected to have knock-on effects on these airlines.  There is also a good chance of other handlers not being willing to cross picket lines.

Unfortunately it is the normal travelling public that suffer when a small minority walk out on strike.  They have little regard for the people who may be taking their one annual holiday that they have saved all year for.

Lets hope that common sense prevails and an agreement is reached prior to the strikes commencing.
